Fortyone does 100% sample based music and sound collage. Working the samples into new and original music. Funky, beat driven, jazzy and hip-hoppy. Humourous, absurd, layers of loopy goodness.

I first discovered Fortyone through Comfort Stand netlabel run by Otis Fodder of The Bran Flakes (the musical affinity seems evident) where he released among other similar minded cut-up artists such as Chenard Walcker or Økapi. It was around 2006 and since then I can't say I've been following his discography closely. I just checked out his 41music.net website once or twice over longer period (for example when making Istota Ssąca episode 41), every time being stunned that Fortyone still releases new albums on a very regular basis, moreover, still appears to use the same tools to create his specific audio collages. For me he's a sort of "outsider" figure in the sense that he doesn't seem to care about chasing modern electronic music trends, instead he continues making his stuff on his own immutable terms: densely packed with samples, often compiled in some conceptual manner, always mixed on mono low-frequency settings on the same old software, distributed as low-bitrate mp3s but with EVERY track having a rich description about sample sources contained in the ID3 tag (for the purpose of this release I pasted these texts onto individual bandcamp tracks' pages - be sure to read them all!). Also the release zip package always contains various bonuses like the set of all unused samples, shared to be used by others. And of course, as one of the main rules, all of Fortyone's works are available to download for free.

"A Video Game Adventure" is Fortyone's 44th (!) release on which he's sampling a total of 164 (!) video games for 14 different video game consoles. From the Atari 2600 to the Wii U. These are the consoles he has and loves and the games that he loves and/or has strong memories of. Not intended to be a comprehensive history or appeal to the popular, these are his personal favorites and experiences. All tracks are funky and upbeat, constructed from and peppered with nearly a thousand video game sounds. The entire release download is highly recommended!
